The Republic has been on the public agenda since the 1850s. It says
something that it's not here yet.

I'm thinking of poets like John Kinsella, MTC Cronin, Emma Lew, Jordie
Albiston, Les Murray, Michael Brennan, Kate Fagan, Samuel Wagan Watson,
Peter Minter, (our very own) Jill Jones, David Brooks, Robert Gray, Dipti
Savanarattu, Phillip Hammial and others too many to mention, who are
plugging between them into an incredibly eclectic range of traditions from
everywhere and writing very contemporary, very intelligent, and - may I say
- very Australian poetry. Personally, despite all my growlings, I think it's
a very exciting time to be writing poetry here.
Cheers
