I was saying that it struck me that the celebration of brutality,
particularly against enemies who simpered, reminded me a certain
"camply fascist" tone of Lawrence's (D.H., that is); and then, since
Lawrence (Upton) didn't seem to think so, I gave an example of the
kind of thing ("anger is sometimes just...") I meant, and the context
in which I'd encountered it (Auden thinking Lawrence - D.H. - could be
rather pro(to)-fascist sometimes, which he could).
Just to tie up any loose ends here, the "celebration of brutality" in
question is being attributed by me to neither Lawrence (Upton),
Stephen (Vincent), (Jacques) Lacan nor indeed the dear blessed SWP.
I'm commenting on my *own* phrase, noticing something about how it
sounds - that's all.
