I don't fully understand the confusion, but I will clarify one point in my
earlier posting. When I described the Jesuits as being silent during their
reading of their Office, they do it individually and (I believe) not at a set
hour of the day but just Morning and Evening. So the whole school didn't go
silent - but you could look out a window or up from shooting hoops in the
quadrangle and see a priest in the distance quietly walking up and down the
side path near the old greying jarrah fence, reading with tilted head his
little black book. The silent figure was very moving to me - the complete
contrast to the brawny brown man who drove the lawnmower as we daydreamed out
the window in maths and science classes.
