What counts (today)
is not love
in the abstract
We have loved
causes as much
as anything We
have loved
others but we
haven't loved
the least of them
Have just again
read Tolstoy's
Resurrection--
those passages
telling of political
prisoners in
long prison trains
enduring chains
persecutions
for the love of
others ignoring
those same others
on the long
trek to Siberia
It's never the
others right next
to us, but
the others in
the abstract
that'r so easy to
love
