Orhan Pamuk (the brilliant Turkish novelist) is facing prosecution for
bringing the State into disrepute by remarking that large numbers of
Armenians and Kurds were killed. Due to the EU thing it sounds as if he
will not go to prison, but it's a chance.
And he's just been hit with another lawsuit, for speaking "in a manner that
degraded the Turkish soldier".

The lawsuit says in part: "it is clear from the case brought against him
that the suspect has got into the habit of committing similar crimes;
although Pamuk is actually a man of literature, he continues to interfere in
political and historical matters on which he is not officially authorized to
speak, and thus demeans the Turkish people, Turkish values as well as the
Turkish military as a short cut to receive the Nobel and similar prizes.²
