Well, I'll take the congrats, Stephen. I was 'forced out' I guess if
retiring at age 65, as the university demands is being forced out. At
the moment, with such things as books to review, thesis committees to
sit on & exams to write & attend, a last one to supervise, & other
things, it feels like a sabbatical, so it will probably be a year or
two before I realize I'm not going back.
Or I might, if they need me for a course or two.
Yeah: I'll miss some students, but after 36 years I've certainly done
my bit, so....? I don't know yet.
I was able to go for 2 weeks to Poland without thinking I was missing
classes....
& Patrick, I was pretty savage about my books: everything (almost) in
the office went -- to the library. That included a lot of runs of
journals, which if I need to check an issue I can go to the library &
do so. There was no room at home, where lots of books still reside, so
it had to be a clean sweep.
I have enough stuff still unread, let alone what I want to reread, plus
possibilities from libraries etc, & the new books that turn up
demanding to be bought, not to worry about what went on to the library.

The blank page
as merely an interval or
an intrusion. We could not rescue it
nor could we huddle, as if the page were
big enough.
