Thanks for the welcome Judy! Being deep in London like I am now makes
me long for a bit of countryside!
Here is my Bush Poem as requested...
DEAR GEORGE
If I had 10 minutes alone with you,
I'd sit down and read you a story
Explaining what democracy is
That winning elections,
Being elected by the people for the people,
Happens when you get the most votes.
Don't worry, there'll be lots of pictures
And I'll make sure the words
Won't be too big for you to understand.
If I had 10 minutes alone with you,
I'd make it a party
Invite widows, children parentless, limbless amputees
The aftermath of the warpath,
To eat cucumber sandwiches
Drink tea and show you pictures of the people you killed.
I would want to make you a photo album
Something to take back to the U S of A
But there were too many photos and not enough space.
If I had 10 minutes alone with you,
I'd show you my kick butt kung fu moves
Get all Bruce lee on your ass.
You could fight back if you wanted
Cause I believe in fair fights
But you'll have to leave the FBI outside
And take off your cowboy boots
Cause cowboy boots hurt the shins
If I had 10 minutes alone with you,
I'd give you a spanking
"Bad George, Bad!"
Pull your chair to the corner
Make you face the wall
Set the timer for 10 minutes
"Now sit and don't you move!"
Just like my mom used to do,
Except there is no timer
And I'd slip out the backdoor
Only regret not knowing you stayed
Until your joints stiffened and your tailbone ached
Waiting for that BBBBRRRRRIIIINNNNGGGGG!
Like the good little boy that you are.
If I had ten minutes alone with you?
Only 10 minutes?
I wouldn't come.
I've got better things to do.

Hey, Heather,
Wow. My mom was born and raised in Alberta! Her descriptions always
seemed, to me, exotic, even at times frightening, a kind of wild beauty.
Her mom raised the three kids while her husband worked in a logging camp
and
was gone for many days at a time. The nearest neighbours were far away,
and
grandma suffered what politely was termed a "nervous breakdown." Mom
moved
at age 16, with her family, to Kalamazoo, Michigan, U.S.A. where she met
my
father. I've never been to B.C. but its photo-ed beauty astounds me.
Have just enjoyed your website, learned of your move to London and your
performance-poetrying as well as your new book, HORIZON AND BACK.
I especially liked your CONFINEMENT poem on your website, the last
several
lines a poignant wrap:
"It isn't until now, years passing
like cheap tabloid papers,
that I remember her sitting
days at my bed
watching me breathe
willing me back to health
her hand on my back
a salvation."
nice.
Can you give us a bit of "The best anti-Bush poem heard so far"
(Eberle)?
Happy success to you!
Judy
PS I'll let a more knowledgeable petc poet explain Snapshots to
you......
