Dear Bob,

I am aware that your time is precious so I will be as concise as possible.

The huge response, both here and across the world, to the Live8 concerts
staged this weekend has unequivocally demonstrated the strength of feeling
regarding the largely avoidable poverty in our world.

We need trade justice: a fair system that allows the poor to live in a
sustainable manner. Distortionary export subsidies and import tariffs must
be removed to provide a level playing field. Sovereignty should be returned
to Governments and Peoples, rather than remaining in the hands of
multinational companies.

Debt cancellation for those countries that are crippled by the usury of rich
countries must be forthcoming. This needs to be without the failing economic
policies of the IMF and World Bank being imposed.

We need to fulfil our commitment to giving 0.7% GNP in aid. This aid must be
focused on the needs of the recipients, rather than the donor countries.
There is a real potential to alleviate this global crisis, furthermore it is
within our means.

As a Member of Parliament it is now your responsibility to act, and to do so
without undue delay. The requirement of you is large, and will require great
personal strength to overcome the interests, which seek to perpetuate
injustice and oppression. I look forward to your response.

Dear Geoff,

Thank you very much for writing to me. You raise a broad field of issues and
a back bench member has to focus very hard on a limited number of issues.

Regulation of the activities of multinational companies will probably be the
small part of your broad field of important issues that I will concentrate
on.

Thank you for getting in touch,

Bob

THE STUTTERING DEAD / A gate for

The Stuttering Dead

The Stuttering Dead

A gate for girls, a gate for boys and a third
for infants. Who knew, the most gothic
minaret really spins a wheel of crows.
Me and clichés hang out together still. I outgrew
the knowledge that every school
is a shut up school. Crows are the seethe
on a red brick breaker. I have now eaten
quite a lot of the chocolate cake which Catherine
baked for Jonathan's birthday. He's gone
to break up with Ellie. 03/11/05.

There are corpses gliding through New Orleans.
The United States needs to beg the United States
to send it some aid. An article in *The Times* saying
an anchorman was monstrous to "chortle" at the irony
of America, the great polluter, reaping its reward.

The only response, the article in *The Times* told you,
is a moment of silence to reflect on the inhumanity.
I choose to use up my moment of silence
wishing Mars had really been moon-sized in August,
there's been an email going around saying it would be,
such sweet, fresh sky around Dollar, it would have been
pretty good – oopsie, "talking" time's starting up! – er –
"Asshole, fuck you! Transmuting cries for help
into a mournful sensation is one thing,
where do you get off telling everyone else to?!"

I need a good way of putting that. Marianne wants
to bring down *The* *Daily Express*. I want
to help her.
