Neanderthal: an extinct subspecies of human beings that populated Europe,
northern Africa, and western Asia in the early Stone Age.
Yes, Lawrence, I was probably superfluously over-reaching or dipping into
cliché. I should give more respect to the original species who apparently
bore little of the characteristics I have ascribed to some of my
'republican' fellows.
Unless your sense of "regret" goes deeper than that?
By the way, Dominic, though I am not always persuaded by your insights or
perceptions, I am taken with the reaches of your learning and breadth re the
19th century, etc.. Ironically, in my initial remarks, my play on the word
"design", "intelligent" or not, was aimed at the word design in the
practical sense of, say, a bridge, that is well designed, in the sense that
it works well as a bridge (cars don't crash, fall off the side, etc.) The
invasion of Iraq was a bridge to nowhere - a design - not based on facts on
the ground - that could only lead to multiple injury crashes, etc. Anybody
- who had ever worked in the once so-called "Third World" (say, Nigeria, for
example, where I personally worked for a couple of years), could have
foreseen that this "operation freedom", etc. was going to be a bonkers
operation. But that comes from experience. These neocon boys and girls had
absolutely - it appears - no such on the ground experience of any lasting
relevance- tho most would say - academically - they were most well educated.
