First question: you could ask that of any group of people. Answer--some are
better informed or smarter than others.
Second question: I doubt there's anything purposeful about it. It's
certainly true that when I was a child in theb 40s and 50s one never heard
of the deaths of roma or homosexuals, but did about political prisoners
(including christian clergy) and the physically and mentally disabled. It
may be merely a question of what groups have better publicity organs.
As a friend of mine often reminds me, sometimes what appears to be malice
may only be folly.
