That's a great story, Mark. Reminds me of my friend's response to the
claim--which I have not read, but which I have heard about from sources I
trust--by Daniel Ladinsky, whose adaptations masquerading as translations of
Hafez are published by Penguin, that Hafez came to him in a dream and spoke
to him in English. (I should point out here that Ladinsky's versions have
been criticized and even condemned, both here and in Iran, because they have
no connection whatsoever to the original.) Anyway, my friend's very serious
response was that maybe someone did come to Ladinksy in a dream, but it was,
judging by Ladinsky's output, certainly not Hafez and may have been a
trickster of some sort.
