Killer rhythm (pacing, halting) in the first line. The internal rhyme
(rest / -faced) has an interesting effect. "Moon-faced" would normally
have the stress on the first syllable, which would break the stress
pattern of the line up until then (so there's an implicit pause before
"moon"), but the rhyme adds a kind of implicit weight to "-faced" as
well, so what might have been a trochee sounds as a spondee (I think:
ask an expert if you really care). The accumulated weight then flows
out through the next line, with its longer feet, so there's a sort of
gathering-and-releasing effect. It really works!
