Strange. I typed in (well, let's be honest, I cut & pasted in)
http://www.dgdclynx.plus.com/ at Google, and it came up with the required
site. I'd infer that the Bourbon thing might be responsible, but that it is
a blind consequence and not volitional.
One of the things Google uses to rate sites is how many other sites
reference it. It took a long time to get the Edinburgh Review's site onto
page 1 of a google search on that term, because there are so many incidental
references to the historical ER out there.
A couple of things that are supposed to help search engines index a site are
metatags for Description and Keywords. Here are the Edinburgh Review's, fyi:
<meta name="Description" content="Scotland's leading journal of ideas since
1802">
<meta name="Keywords" content="Edinburgh Review, Literature, Scotland,
Scottish, Scots, Gaelic, English, Language, Culture, Cultural, Edinburgh,
Magazine, Poetry, Poet, Poets, Poetic, Fiction, Story, Short Story,
Translation, Europe, European, World, Critical, Criticism, Critic, Essay,
Review, Reviews, Writing, Thought, Thinking, Philosophy, Philosopher,
Enlightenment, Modern, Contemporary,
EDINBURGH REVIEW, LITERATURE, SCOTLAND, SCOTTISH, SCOTS, GAELIC, ENGLISH,
LANGUAGE, CULTURE, CULTURAL, EDINBURGH, MAGAZINE, POETRY, POET, POETS,
POETIC, FICTION, STORY, SHORT STORY, TRANSLATION, EUROPE, EUROPEAN, WORLD,
CRITICAL, CRITICISM, CRITIC, ESSAY, REVIEW, REVIEWS, WRITING, THOUGHT,
THINKING, PHILOSOPHY, PHILOSOPHER, ENLIGHTENMENT, MODERN, CONTEMPORARY,
edinburgh review, literature, scotland, scottish, scots, gaelic, english,
language, culture, cultural, edinburgh, magazine, poetry, poet, poets,
poetic, fiction, story, short story, translation, europe, european, world,
critical, criticism, critic, essay, review, reviews, writing, thought,
thinking, philosophy, philosopher, enlightenment, modern, contemporary">
The idea is to second-guess the kind of terms a user is likely to type into
the search engine, and the style in which they may do so--hence the
repetition. This may, I have to admit however, be superstition.
These tags must be placed before the body tag. I'm not sure whether head
/head tags are necessary to enclose these metatags, but I see that they do
so on a couple of my sites.
