It occurs to me that the reverse (complementary) meaning of what the
actor does when he goes to the front (head) of the stage & bends the top
of his body forward - i.e. takes a bow(1) - is to take a bow(2) = head,
i.e. defecate with relief cum disgust, albeit in the opposite direction
to the audience (the sailor, or jack, is looking at the crew), in an
excre- (and possibly sacra-)mental parody of respect & gratitude.
