Well, I only have that Nonesuch version of the 3rd, but like it a lot.
As to Murray Schafer, I don't know his music as well as I should, but I
do like the String Quartets. I was never able to see 'live' the amazing
group performances he created, often for the outdoors, but have seen
videos. bpNichol & other sound poets took part (& Schafer has published
some amazing writings, which bp I think helped get into print for Open
Letter),.
The Gorecki I was referring to include the Lerchenmusik, yes, & the
first string quartet (as an aside, I like almost everything Kronos
Quartet has done, including the 2 CD Terry Riley).
For awhile I couldn't get enough of Pärt, & still like much of his work.
I've been listening to a number of the ECM NEw Music series, but can't
remember the names of all the composers, such as Erkki-Sven Tüür & his
Exodus (I will take down other names the next time I take them out of
the library). I'm also listening to some of Ligeti with interest.
Although, of course, I love the greats, I am really interested in a lot
of contemporary music....
