Well, >Then he will be damned with most of the world's politicians and
many others.< I have no quarrel with that. But the word "damning" was
not by me, nor is usually, meant literally. I think grovelling to Saddam
like that - though I agree the invasion was & is wrong - pretty
contemptible.
>There may well be a hatred of Jews in much opposition to Israel.< A
Parisian friend of mine, who is politically opposed to the state of
Israel, tells me he cannot join the frequent pro-Palestinian marches in
Paris because of the rabid anti-Jewish agitation (which has been
increasing here in France lately.) There *is* something illegitimate
about protesting against injustice with unjust means, though it is
understandable. The killing of a lot of Israelis (many of whom are/will
be innocent of oppressing or killing Palestinians) will not be justified
by the number of dead Palestinians. Unfortunately there is a mindset
common to humans that identifies any individuals in a group with
reprehensible actions taken by some members of that group. But even the
Lord ("Vengeance is mine") agreed to spare Sodom & Gomorra if there were
ten just men to be found there, on Abraham's insistence.
