Found the Steve Erikson books, don't know how I missed these before.
The R.Scott Bakker are due later this year and early next year in UK in paperback, which is all
I can afford as I buy too many books anyway. Ho hum.
Will try when they are available I think

but I'd want to compare with more interesting (to me, obviously) works
than those by the Eddings.
There are in fact a lot of good fantasy series out there (as well as
thousands of not so). I think Alison's is very near the top. I find
that the other two that are really first rate are much more about war &
empire, but they are terrific: the ongoing Malazan Books of the Dead by
anthropologist Steve Erikson & & the Prince of Nothing trilogy by Scott
Bakker.
