Hi Chris and Doug
Just popping my head in briefly from Listland into, er, the list (I am
permanently this week with a notebook at my elbow, trying to tick items off
what seems an entirely too long trail of trivial tasks).
Chris, I'm looking forward to seeing what else you do with my poems - I
found what your "tinkering" with Flames really interesting, more like the
kind of collaboration I'm used to with musicians, interruptions and
redirections, rhythmic rearrangements... I wonder if it might work as well
with the more tightly wound ones! They might unravel altogether, or just go
ping. Wait and see, I guess... But it also made me wonder whether, rather
than increasing the possibilities of readings, the images might direct them:
suggesting particular choices, rather than the kind of open-ended resonances
which may (or may not!) take place otherwise. That's to do with that
"commanding" quality you note about images in our culture. But ideally the
images and text exist in tension and vibrate together, destabilising each
other...
Hmm, hard not to feel like a wanker talking about my own poetry in this
way... Anyway, thanks for the place on your blog, and too for your and
Doug's kind comments -
Best
A
