Hi Janet and others,
These sound like you enjoyed writing them! I wonder which article you read
on haiku? I've been writing haiku mostly in English (but a few in Japanese
too) for more than 10 years now. When I started I was living in Japan -
which probably was a help. The Japanese tradition and
English-language-haiku are not the same thing and very few people writing
'serious' English language haiku count syllables anymore.
Some good articles to read can be found on
http://www.ahapoetry.com/haiku.htm
The Heron's Nest at
http://www.theheronsnest.com/
is possibly the most highly regarded online journal for haiku.
Check them out and see what you think.
best,
Sue
