Join poets Mikhail and Joris for a reading and conversation about
poetry, translation, and politics.
Facing threats and harassment from Iraqi authorities for her writing,
Dunya Mikhail fled Iraq for the United States in the late 1990s. In
2001, she was awarded the U. N. Human Rights Award for Freedom of
Writing. She is the author of four collections of poetry including The
War Works Hard (New Directions, 2005). Pierre Joris's most recent
publications include Poasis: Selected Poems1986-1999, A Nomad Poetics,
a collection of essays, and Paul Celan: Selections.
