hahaha--Doug! Yes, I had spent so much time looking for that special
invitation to Waco, too. darn it, i guess they never sent me one.
hey, when poet Eileen Tabios was here a few weeks ago to read for my
UTA series and in Austin for Skanky Possum, we drove on the interstate
not far from that famous prez place. I don't know if you've ever seen
the region, but for those who have not, it's such a lblankly de-motive
place... very flat and unremarkable but for miles of ugly mall like
businesses along the highway. Eileen said something like, 'oh isn't
this near where the prez has his ranch?' I said, yeah, what'ya think?
She said, 'it's just so empty..."
As in, absolutely vacant of meaningful landmarks--so, not unlike how I
imagine this prez's mind. And then there was that other notable figure
from the same area, just down the road: David Koresh--the 1990s cult
figure the gov went after. Sheesh. I've never liked this state. But
it does hold many wonderful poetry-people, and others who are
remarkably good folks, so that is something.
thanks for sayin'...
best,
c

Wow, Chris
impossible I guess to even think about any kind of separation of
poetry& politics down there in Texas, especially with a blog like
yours....
I don't think you'll ever be invited to 'The Ranch'....
