I'm afraid "it can toss / us off at a whim" has *quite* the wrong
connotations for me...
I don't think there's a big problem with the scansion - it isn't all
regular iambs by any means, but it's easy enough to see where stresses
should fall, and they do seem to be falling in suitable places. "Are
NOT REAL THINGS, but MEREly HUman IMpoSITions" works well for me, and
is echoed by "our BLUE EARTH'S PATH is CHANGED by its OWN / DEEP
SPASM".
