Last night a machine sent me a message saying I had been removed from PoetryEtc because another machine had had some difficulties with my account. (This involves going to their website and reconnecting and then waiting till one is accepted - speedy in our case - and then checking what has been lost.)
There then followed a very patronising little note, drafted by someone who had obviously spent too long with machines, telling me to take it seriously
It warned me my ISP may try to argue it away - as if I didn't know; but doesn't seem to consider the possibility that it is jisc which is at fault, though that is exactly the kind of position which will be taken by my lot
JISC reminded me that the level of service I get is a business decision and it is up to me whether I accept it
I have told jisc that their level of service is *their business decision and I do not accept it, and that it "would have been less arrogant and absolutely stupid to have had it INFORM me of the problem so that I could take it up with my ISP"; but so far they have not had the courtesy to reply
I mention this in case anyone experiences a similar problem. Remember these are real people with real spanners in their heads; and they only think they are all powerful. But as most people think I.T. is magic they are used to awed acceptance. I urge you to argue with them
