it was on in london last summer at the same time as Real Gone came out.
Marianne Faithfull was a swaggering, sultry Devil. It was too much of a
clear-cut folk tale world, to me - maybe only in this performance - in a way
that theatre from Middle-Europe, which Black Rider seems keen to be in the
tradition of, isn't prone to.
Director Robert Wilson seems to have launched his own genre of The Absurd
Musical - the other two Tom Waits ones are superb - especially Alice, and
has anyone seen his collaborations with Lou Reed? (Time Machine?) I'd love
to know what they're like.
