CALL TO PAPERS
(please forward and excuse multiple postings)
Strips of Knowledge ~ Le savoir par la bande
Bibliothèque nationale du Québec
5-7 avril 2006 : Montréal, Québec, Canada http://www.blue-met-bleu.com/EN/index.asp?lasection=41
International comics colloquium, simultaneously translated in French and
English, held during the 8th Blue Metropolis Montreal International
Literary Festival (April 5-9 2006 http://www.blue-met-bleu.com/), in
collaboration with the Association pour l'avancement des sciences et des
techniques de la documentation (http://www.asted.org/), the Société pour
la promotion de la science et la technologie (http://www.spst.org/), the
Bibliothèque nationale du Québec (http://www.bnquebec.ca/), Library and
Archives Canada (http://www.collectionscanada.ca/) and the Centre
national de la bande dessinée et de l'image (http://www.cnbdi.fr/).
DESCRIPTION
Because of its marginalized nature, its use of text and images and its
reader-base, comics have traditionally been problematic for researchers,
librarians and educators. On the other hand, comics have risen as an art
form, eloquently depicting works of fiction as well as reality and
scientific achievement in a powerful manner.
The "Strips of Knowledge ~ le savoir par la bande" colloquium will be a
unique chance to explore the world of comics, often criticized, but ever
popular around the globe. We hope to highlight exceptional initiatives
and events that use comics in libraries as well as any place of learning.
In that sense, we invite librarians, educators, scholars, artists and
other practitioners to submit papers presenting research, projects and
activities that employ and promote comics. More specifically, the themes
of interest are:
· Knowledge transmitted by comics (promotion of science, learning,
history and well being);
· Knowledge about comics (history of the form, styles, genres,
readership, and comics librarianship - collections development,
promotion and use);
· Know-how related to comics (creative process, techniques and methods).
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE FOR PAPERS
Each submission must contain the following items:
· Title of the paper;
· Name and Title of the presenter;
· An abstract of no more than 150 words.
Please send your submissions via email to Olivier Charbonneau, the
