This post is available immediately for a fixed term of two years in the first instance, with the possibility of continuity, to work on two research projects aiming to produce quantitative models of rail industry costs, funded by the European Commission and by the universities rail research centre, RRUK. With a strong quantitative background, you should be interested in applying economic and econometric methods to analyse rail transport costs as well as drawing upon evidence from other areas, and in particular engineering. This post offers an excellent opportunity for someone to contribute to the development of a major area of research in ITS.
With a good first degree, and preferably a higher degree, in Economics or Econometrics, you will have experience of using econometric or statistical software such as SAS/SPSS and competent IT skills. A willingness to work flexibly on different projects and learn new skills is also essential, as are good interpersonal and communication skills, including written. Prior knowledge of the rail industry would be an advantage, as would experience of applied economics in transport or other network industries.
