I've been using Sun Grid Engine for the last 6 months or so. It is quite easy to install and figure out. It took me a week or so to get the appropriate scriptage setup to distribute SPM jobs across the grid, but now it works quite well. I mainly use it to do preprocessing steps on large groups of subjects. For example, I have a template creating module. Each subject in the template is normalized & segmented as a separate job, then when all subjects are finished, they are all added up and averaged. I am using about 20 nodes, and it takes e.g. 36 hours to create a template and priors from 1400 subjects.
I would be happy to provide some of my cobbled together code if you're interested.
