"M" is for backward compatibility with SPM99 and doesn't take into account the
orientations derived from spm_flip_analyze_images. If a "mat" field exists,
then this is used by SPM2, and it ignores whatever is returned by
spm_flip_analyze_images. If there is only an "M", then this is used - along
with the value from spm_flip_analyze_images.
