Reintroduction really, as I have been around on this list before, but a major computer crash interrupted my use of the server I use for discussion lists etc. I'm Kay Millard, about to enter my fifth and I hope final year of a part-time PhD at Bath Spa University. I also teach Christianity as a World Religion to level 2 and 3 students at BSU, which accounts for my missing this year's socrel conference as I was on my hind legs in a lecture room at the time. My research looks at the interface between religion and secularity in the UK today, with reference to personal and institutional religion and secular institutions, using the wedding ceremony as a paradigm. I've used grounded theory to develop the research, in the course of which I have become interested in the similarities and differences between internet data and 'live' data from observations and interviews, so would be interested to hear from anyone else who has strayed into that field. I have particularly drawn on Edward Bailey's work on Implicit Religion for evidence of religious commitments in the secular sphere, though the full theoretical context of my thesis is much more extensive and multidisciplinary. Good to be back in the socrel swim.
