Hi there.
This is mostly inresponse to Andrew Orton's message. I'm not actually researching in the area of religion and social action but I aim to be later (one the Phd is done). However, I am co-convening a conference on that very subject "faith, spiritual and social change" - Saturday April 8th 2006 at the Univerity of Winchester - www.fsscconference.org.uk has a few more details and we're accepting abstracts until November.
Regards

Subject: Belated greetings!
Hi all,
A belated greeting to everyone on this mailing list from me, as I've been out
doing research fieldwork, and my computer ate the original reply!
I'm at the end of my first year of my PhD at Durham, doing a qualitative study
on 'Faith, Dialogue and Difference in Community Regeneration Practice'. I'm
particularly concerned with critically evaluating what is considered to
be "good practice" in this context, making a bridge between the broad issues
of identity, politics, policy and religion and their particular relationship
with professional practice in local communities. As a community worker with a
background in managing community projects, I'm particularly focusing on both
this individual practice level and the organisational dynamics that accompany
it, looking at how beliefs and faith are put into practice in individual and
corporate ways.
I'd be really interested to hear from any students working in similar areas,
especially those looking at the relationship between faith and social action.
Hope you are all doing well in negotiating the PhD minefield, and enjoying the
summer!
Andrew
