Dear list,
In Highlands we are getting close to integrating our LMS (TALIS) with
SignUP, our PC booking system.
We will be asking users to login to the PCs using their card number for
username and their PIN for password. We’re not 100% clear on how we will
issue PINs but it looks as though the easiest way is for staff to issue
them as and when required. This has raised the subject of PIN security.
If I as a library user am accused of accessing inappropriate material but
steadfastly deny it, saying that someone else must have used my card
number and PIN, then we’ve little or no way of disproving this as the
library staff can view the PINs, and will need to in order to issue them
to users.
How have you overcome this issue in your authority? Did legal have an
input?
Many thanks,
Chan aithnich feum ach beagan chriochan.
