Thanks Janet, and to all the other contributors. This issue is an interesting and Quirky [ i think your word is a good choice] issue for a number of reasons. Really enjoyed the jingle jangle malleability of this issue. Best regards, Robert Lane.

RACHEL CARSON DIED IN 1964
the faint
dawn chorus
has nothing
to do with
my new
multifocals
imagine
watching crows
and seagulls
with eyes
sharp and hungry
as theirs are
if global warming
brings winds
wild enough
to blow trucks
off the highways
will we be haunted
by scavengers
starving?
the fool
who won't duck
bleeds
from the forehead
Rachel Carson
died in 1964

And thank you to you Robert for bothering with us
and for claiming that our poetry is "important". What a word!
People have said various things about my poetry in the past,
but "important" has not been one of them. ;)
It's a pleasure to be published among such a lot of good, interesting
and quirky poems (most are all three). Not all of the other
people's poems satisfy my personal aesthetic sensibilities, but all
of them are well-written and worthwhile. I particularly liked the work of
Alison Eastley and Skip Fox.

I may have got this wrong, but I thought I heard, over the noise of the
mariachi band next door, that Bush is planning to appoint Paul Rove pope.
Anybody know any details?
