> Isn't it worth trying?
I don't think it is. I think it's time to try something else instead.
The author of the article I linked to said a couple of things that I
found interesting. He said that the tactics of the Civil Rights
movement were closely linked to Dr King's analysis of the political
situation at the time. He chose those tactics because he thought that
those tactics, and not others, would work. He did not choose them out
of despair because he thought that there was almost nothing else that
could be done.
The article suggested that those tactics were not suitable tactics
given the political situation at this time. I agree with that. It's
quite evident that they're not working. They haven't worked for quite
a while. I don't believe that there are no alternatives. I believe
that the SWP and their chums are either just pathetically
unimaginative or are being operated by MI5 with the express purpose of
preventing the alternatives from being tried.
I am contributing in a very minor way to a very minor rewiring of part
of the public sphere at the moment - see
http://www.thepublicwhip.org.uk. I don't as it happens believe that
Shiny! New! Technology! holds the answers to all our problems, but
it's part of the picture and needs to be engaged with intelligently
and imaginatively.
I do not see how the politics of FOX news are to be contested by
fabricating further spectacle. That is a battle that can only be lost,
given whose finger is on the editing console. Move the bloody
goalposts already.
