When my wife read over what I'd just sent out, she remarked: Max, you always
go for the lyrical and neglect the dramatic. You didn't mention how I
groaned 'Is this the tenth plague?' and how our place is failing to find a
buyer, and every day it has to be spotless, and in the morning the toilets
wouldn't flush. Etc (I omit the money crises).
But as the plumber told me on the phone, stormwater is quite separate from
sewerage...
I often reflect how the bad news like hurricanes elsewhere only reaches me
as 'unimaginable', while I'm preoccupied with my little experiences. Someone
once said to me 'the day Kennedy was killed my kitten was run over and
killed and the second event affected me more'...
