Yes, Lawrence, it is a learned skill - to see more attentively. I'm certain
you know the tale of Rilke and Rodan which resulted in the Panther poem of
Rilke. (I think it was originally called Das Panther.) Great poem of seeing.
Now I am often stopped by nature - high or low, big or tiny. Yesterday it
was a lizard with its tail missing. I saw it as a metaphor for so many
hearts in this world - sad and frightened. But I also saw it for itself
first ... Beautiful and alive, as in the images in GMHopkins notebooks.
Now nature says eat, so I shall eat breakfast. It is a most beautiful spring
day here.
