Stephen V. talks about the idea of posting reviews on listservs
versus reviews in magazines, and summarises thus:
> So I guess I am of two minds here. Wanting to get my enthusiasm for a book
> out quick to as many as possible versus the 'civilizing' nature of going
> into the editorial blessing of magazine publication.

Publish reviews in both! and blogs, and wherever else.
It would be great to see reviews on email lists, as well as just notices
about new books & magazines. But it would be a shame if reviews
in magazines disappeared.
And maybe Alison is right, reviews on email lists would develop their
own "imprimatur" if they were any good. Especially if one did them as
a series with a name so that people who value that reviewer's opinions
could recognise them.
But if you're really worried about prestige, you're probably working
in the wrong medium and should try, oh, wrapping buildings or something.
