Deadline 28 October
Operational Research Society (UK) Simulation Study Group
3rd Simulation Workshop (SW06)
Held in cooperation with the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group for Simulation (ACM SIGSIM ) and the INFORMS Simulation Society
28-29 March 2006
The biennial Operational Research Society Simulation Workshop brings together practitioners and academics working in the field of discrete-event simulation. It provides an opportunity to exchange ideas on the current and future state-of-the-art in simulation and modelling. Due to the success of previous workshops, SW06 is moving to a new location.
Location
Ashorne Hill Conference Centre is situated close to Royal Leamington Spa in the West Midlands region of England (London 1 hour, Birmingham 30 minutes). Nearby are Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace) and Warwick's Medieval Castle.
The Grade II listed building provides excellent accommodation in a rural location. All bedrooms are en-suite and are equipped to the highest standard. The dining area, Dexter's bar and the coffee lounge provide a relaxed setting for meeting with colleagues. You can enjoy a walk in the extensive grounds and surrounding woodlands, while for the more energetic there is a gym and facilities for playing tennis and squash.
The Programme
The workshop will include plenary sessions, special focus streams and a PhD poster session. Contributions to the technical programme are sought in the following areas, although papers in any area of discrete-event simulation will be considered.
Simulation Methodology
* Component based simulation
* Collaboration methods
* Distributed simulation
* Web based simulation
* Simulation and the grid
* Simulation and artificial intelligence
* Simulation software
* Simulation standards
* Human performance modelling
* Simulation education
Simulation Applications
* Simulation in manufacturing
* Simulation in services
* Simulation in defence
* Simulation in health
* Simulation in semiconductor industry
* Simulation practice
Simulation Modelling and Analysis
* Conceptual modelling
* Verification and validation
* Design and analysis of simulation experiments
All submissions will be peer reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will be presented at the conference. Presentations will be given 30 minutes including time for questions.
The Simulation Practice Stream provides an opportunity to submit a shorter paper (3 to 4 pages). These papers should either describe a novel application of simulation or provide some insight into how the use of simulation might be improved. Contributions from simulation practitioners are particularly encouraged.
Timetable and Deadlines
28 October 2005: Submit electronically contributed papers not previously published or presented. The submission form and submission instructions can be found at www.theorsociety.com (under conferences). Each submission must be a 4 to 10 page paper (3 to 4 pages for the Simulation Practice Stream), including an abstract of less than 150 words. Submission implies that an author will attend the workshop to present the paper, and all clearance required for publication of the paper will be obtained by 11 February, 2006.
20 December 2005: Contributors will be notified whether or not their paper has been accepted. Instructions for preparing final manuscripts will be made available.
11 February 2006: Authors provide the final manuscript for printing in the conference proceedings.
11 February 2006: Submit 1 to 3 page papers for the PhD poster session. These should be submitted using the electronic submission form for full contributed papers. Submission implies that an author will attend the conference. All PhD posters will be published in the conference proceedings.
