RE: Healthcare information regarding Gypsies and Travellers.
An excellent publication has come to my attention recently called "A Better Road : An Information Booklet For Health Care & Other Professionals", which was produced by the Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group in collaboration with the Derbyshire Traveller Issues Working Group.
Although only 29 pages long, this nicely produced document does seem to cover a number of relevant issues.
In addition to an introduction to, and brief history of Romany commnities in the UK, it covers;
Romani Language, Occupations and Education, Customs of Cleanliness, Customs of Chastity, Death, Religion, Concept of Justice, Obligation to Avoid (deals with Romany social behaviours), Travellers as the Clients of the Health Services, Good Care, The Hospital, Giving Birth, Maternity and Children's Clinics, School Health Care, At the Doctors, Hospital Services, Dress, Meal Times, Visits, A Dying Patient, and Going Home.
It was published last year, and I imagine is still available from the Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group (01629 583300)
Hope this helps,
Karl

Dear All,
Please does anyone know of any information/projects or have policies in their organisations which focus specifically on healthcare for Gypsies and Travellers?
Many Thanks
Jane
