Hi Duncan
In Denmark we have a direct entry midwifery program. Duration 3,5 years.
The student will attain a bachelordegree in midwifery. In Denmark the
midwiferyprogram has always been a direct entry program, dating more than
200 years back. Nurses can get into the program, and they will have merit
for certain parts of the program. But the program will still be 3,5 years.
There are only a few nurses in the midwifery program - around 2 pr- year.
Unfortunately the description of the program is in Danish, but I will se if
I can find some material written in English, and mail it to you directly.
In Denmark students on this level, do not pay for education (at this time).

J havejust completed my final year of this degree Elaine. I wonder whether
you are subscribed to the ozmidwiferylist?Imsure you would get some help
from the people on that list. You might also like tocontact Jan Pincombeat
UniSAof Pauline Glover at FlindersUniversity. Imsure both women would be
able to provide you with the help you seek.
In the meantime, the Review of Services Offered by Midwives bythe NHMRC is
supportive of the midwifery model of care and so indirectly supports the
direct entry program. The ACMI webpage may also have some supportive
information.
Hope you are successful
Cheers
Tina

Subject: Direct entry degree midwifery
Hi
In ACT Australia we are in the process of formulating an argument to
present to Ministers etc for a direct entry degree midwifery programme as
at present we only have a year post graduate course. Can anyone point us in
the right direction of research that relates to the benefits of having such
a course that would strengthen our case? Also how to overcome the financial
implications? We would also appreciate any advice or comments related to
how to structure such a course so that it is in line with the European
guidelines.
Regards
