THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER
FACULTY OF MEDICAL & HUMAN SCIENCES
DIVISION OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
RESEARCH MIDWIFE (MHS/418/05)
(St Mary's Hospital, Manchester)
SALARY: WITHIN THE RANGE £24,629 - £28,975 PER ANNUM (G Grade)
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic midwife with at
least three years experience for the above post. Previous research
experience is desirable but not essential.
You will be responsible for identifying and recruiting eligible
women to a large project on teenage pregnancies: a project funded
by Tommy's the baby charity (Charity No. 1060508) and a grant from
The Community Fund. This is a joint project between the Maternal
and Fetal Health Research Centre, University of Manchester at St.
Mary's Hospital, Manchester and the Maternal and Fetal Research
Unit, Kings College London at St. Thomas' Hospital, London.
Teenage pregnancy rates in the United Kingdom remain the highest
in Western Europe, and are associated with poor pregnancy
outcomes. These poor outcomes have been attributed to various
factors such as the nutritional status of the mother prior to
pregnancy as well as poor socio-economic status and reproductive
immaturity or growth status. The aim of this project is to
investigate potential mechanisms responsible for the poor outcome
in teenage pregnancies.
This post is full time and fixed term in nature, for a period of 1
year 9 months.
