Dear all
The Electronic Museum is a new web resource - launching in May 2005 -
for technical managers, developers, authors or any other professionals
who are using the web, kiosk or similar technologies in a museum
context.
The site will feature articles, reviews and discussion on the topics
that are important to the museum community. From accessibility to
metadata, design to usability, Electronic Museum aims to provide
information - as well as opinion - on the current thinking and
strategies of today's online museum professionals.
As well as looking at best practice, the site will also have reviews
of the "best of the rest" - sites that aren't necessarily museum in
name but either have elements that could be developed in a museum
context or provide interesting ideas on possible future directions in
displaying collections, galleries or exhibitions online.
I have started writing content and have emailed a few people on this
list - all of whom sounded interested and willing - and I'm now
looking for some more people who would also be able to spare some time
writing.
Alternatively, if you just want to comment on the idea, the design or
have some thoughts of your own on how it could move in the future,
please do contact me.
I am developing the site purely as a personal project, with no funding
and in my own time - so please bear with me if it takes me a while to
get back to you.
Please visit http://www.electronicmuseum.org.uk/em/about/emauthoring.asp
or respond off-list to [log in to unmask] with any feedback so
as to avoid clogging MCG in-boxes.
I look forward to hearing from you
Mike Ellis
