assessing the quality of information
speaker: Karen Blakeman
date: 7 Nov
course fee: £295.00 + VAT (£346.63) includes buffet lunch and refreshments.
Anyone and everyone can publish on the Web. Not all, though, are qualified
or knowledgeable in their chosen subject and some even publish deliberately
misleading information. Separating fact from fiction, and scrutinising the
credentials of an author on the Net are now an essential part of any
research. This course provides a step by step guide to assessing and
evaluating the quality of information. All types of media, including print,
will be covered but the emphasis will be on electronic resources. The
techniques are applicable to all sectors and types of organisations and all
levels of expertise.

collaborative knowledge: the challenge of complex partnerships
speakers: please see website
date: 8 Nov
course fee: £250 + VAT (£293.75) includes buffet lunch and refreshments
Organisations in all sectors are looking to extend their capabilities and
improve their ability to innovate. They aim to deliver excellent services
and products through collaboration with organisations and individuals
working outside their traditional boundaries. Networks and partnerships
drawn from suppliers, developers and customers contribute to innovative and
exciting working environments. But such complexity raises new challenges.
How can knowledge be shared effectively between the partners in a complex
network?
Using the health sector as a 'case study' this seminar and workshop
demonstrates how complex partnerships can be managed to become creative
learning networks. More than any other, the health sector is an elaborate
picture of networks and partnerships. Speakers from the sector will share
their experiences and visions for the future.
The challenges of and ideas from the health sector offer many transferable
lessons to all sectors. In an interactive workshop session following these
expert inputs, TFPL Associate Elizabeth Lank will work with delegates to
help them identify key lessons and actions while sharing her own experience
of good collaborative networking.
All participants will receive a copy of her recently published book.

researching a global company
speaker: Sylvia James
date: 10 Nov
course fee: £295.00 + VAT (£346.63) includes buffet lunch and refreshments.
As companies in all the major economic regions of the world exploit
cross-border opportunities, the need to conduct definitive business research
in a global context becomes vital for success. These large international
companies are complex to research and require knowledge of company types and
sources in many different countries. Unfortunately, there are no fully
international information services that can be used to cover all the
subsidiaries and divisions of a global company. Research needs to be
conducted using a variety of sources, which then need to be integrated,
region by region, to present a world view of the company. This one day
course explores the methods and sources for researching global companies
effectively, in the major economic regions of the world.
