Subject: Dialog DataStar Advanced Search
Hi everyone,
Some advanced notice on two upcoming releases within DataStar.
MULTIFILE ADVANCED SEARCH
Currently it is possible to search multiple databases within Easy Search
and single databases within Advanced Search.
It will now be possible to search multiple databases within Advanced
Search.
Currently:
Users tick the databases they are interested in and click on Easy
Search. For advanced search, the user must click on the 'Advanced
Search' button next to the database of choice.
In Future:
Users can tick the database(s) they are interested in and then click
either the easy or advanced search buttons which are displayed both at
the top and bottom of the database list.
To pre-empt any questions, we have not yet solved the problem of
combining multiple thesauri (!), so you will need to choose a single
database to use a thesaurus.
In the results table showing your sets, you will see the individual
results from each database as well as the combined set.
Please note that results are not automatically deduplicated to prevent
any unecessary delays for those who do not want to deduplicate.
In the results table which displays the sets the databases will be
hyperlinked, as they are now, to allow you to easily switch between
databases. Within the sets where multiple databases are used, there will
be a new option to link to 'all' databases.
TABBED DATABASE LISTS
Also, for those organisations that have more than one subject area
covered within DataStar, we will shortly be able to offer a tabbed
database display page. For example, if you have both health and
education databases, you would be able to have three tabs: All, Health,
Education. This replaces the current single alphabetical list of all
databases. If you are interested in this, please let me know.
Both are expected to go live on the 1st October, although I will keep
you informed of any changes to this schedule.
take care all, any questions, as ever, please just ask.
