Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists
AGS Electronic Data Format Conference
Production, Management and Application of
Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental
Data in Electronic Format
------------------------------
19th October 2005
at
The National Motorcycle Museum
Birmingham
England
Background
The AGS Format for the Electronic Transfer of Geotechnical Data was first
published in 1991 and was rapidly adopted by producers, users and archivers
of data throughout the UK and in several major locations overseas. Usage
rapidly gave rise to an appreciation of the benefits of the Format and a
broadening of its scope. This was implemented through the publication of AGS
2 and AGS 3 and AGSM, the latter to deal with monitoring data. Continuing
increases in the numbers of users and application of its concepts have led
to the publication of AGS 3.1 in December 2004 which incorporates AGSM.
Further developments, including an XML version, are being worked on with
international cooperation and are expected to lead to AGS 4 and AGSML. (For
full details of the format and its history see http://www.ags.org.uk )
The Event
The event will provide the background and details of the developments
embodied in AGS 3.1, deal with management of data, present case histories,
discuss problems and solutions and, through discussion and presentation,
consider further applications and what the characteristics of future formats
should be.
The venue for the conference is conveniently situated close to the M42, M6,
Birmingham International Railway Station and Birmingham Airport and is where
the AGS Format was "born" in 1991.
Call for Papers
Papers are invited from software producers, data producers, data receivers,
data users and client organisations with experience in the handling and use
of geotechnical and geoenvironmental data in electronic format.
Synopses should be submitted to the AGS by 16th May 2005 and selected final
papers by 19th September 2005.
