If you decide to use it, try to be sure it is compacted wet of optimum moisture content, and make sure this is the optimum moisture content for the compaction equipment and energy being used in construction, which may not be the same as the optimum moisture content from laboratory Proctor tests.

Dear members
We have a fine borrow area for clay core of a dam. The
dam has about 30m height. Testing according to
ASTM-D4546-Method A (free swelling) has been shown
about 5% swelling.
1) Can we use this soil naturally for construction of
core?
2) If not, can we process and use? With which method
and cost?
