Dear Willa
I think you'll find MAs in Drawing as a stand alone subject at Wimbledon,
Kingston and at Camberwell which is the course I myself run! In fact several
of my students have undertaken courses at the Princes Drawing School..
Regards
Angela Eames

Dear Patricia,
Do you know of The Prince's Drawing School? We are the UK's only school
dedicated to drawing at an advanced level and our mission is to raise the
standard and profile of drawing through teaching and practice. Our premise
is that drawing is a vital, universal language that continues to grow
through observation, memory and imagination, as well as regular practice and
study.
Currently our priority is to offer subsidised courses for young artists
whose needs are not being met in most art schools and universities. The
faculty is made up of 35 distinguished artists who are experienced teachers
from leading international institutions including the Royal Academy, Royal
College of Art, Ruskin and Slade.
Our core programme is the Drawing Year, a post-graduate level part time
course for 25 students; there are no fees with some bursary support and
studio space. Application deadline for the 2005/2006 Drawing Year is April 1
2005.
On average over 400 students from many different backgrounds attend our
public courses each week that range from master-classes in galleries and
museums to drop-in life classes for local school children on Saturdays.
Special events include the free annual Drawing Marathon, a series of films
on artists usually presented by the producer or artist, talks by painters
most Wednesday nights during term, study tours in the holidays and drawing
debates.
For more information about the School, please do not hesitate to contact me
or look at our website: www.princesdrawingschool.org
With best wishes,
Willa Beckett

Subject: Teaching Drawing
On a different tack to the issues of environment, and the debate of
"formal"-ness, could anyone point me in the direction of literature
concerning
the teaching of drawing, drawing exercises...even what happened in detail at
Albers classes at Black Mountain college would be of interest...
Having had an "education" in Fine Art,(and continuing in that process), I'm
lamenting the lack of structured teaching of drawing (not necessarily the
teaching of structured drawing), and it would be nice to get some ideas
about the improvement of the situation.
