I have seen this same problem before once. I couldn't find the solution, except that the staff member couldn't do it from home.
It seemed like we had the same version of IE. I wondered if javascript permissions were off when it didn't work, but haven't
tried testing that. Does seem to be some sort of javascript problem though.

Subject: My Calender Problems
Hello All
One of our students has reported a problem with My Calendar and I wondered
if anyone else had come across this?
The student keeps getting an error message saying that start and end times
can't be the same, even though she is entering different start and end
times for an event. She is trying to access the calendar from home, is
using Windows XP, Internet Explorer and Telewest Broadband.
I have also tried from home using Windows XP, IE and BT Broadband and I
cannot replicate the problem. My Calendar also works fine for me when
accessing it from within UWE.
I have advised that she tries turing off any antivirus software, firewall
and pop-up blockers she may have installed on a systematic basis to see if
these are causing the problems.
kind regards
Tina
