Merv,
Thanks for the feedback. Is one way round this to remove the default rights for "All system users" and add rights for an organization in which all staff are registered? This would lock out students. Have to think this through a bit further to see what the downside would be when we wanted students to access the additional areas. I suppose we could always add all students to an organization too.
One thing I would like to be able to do is make the organizations unavailable so that they do not show on the tabs. Would that effect their access rights to the CS areas?
This is all part of the CS policy brainstorming at Paisley. One idea is that by locking students out of the "Courses" area this will force them to go via the module to get to the resources thereby encouraging them to see the resources in the T&L context.
Any and all other policy comments from the list would be welcomed.
best,
Arthur

Arthur,
you could do this by managing the permissions for each of these areas. Go to: System Admin> Content System> Manage Content> Modify (for the content area you want to manage permissions for)>Permissions>Add Users>Browse to bring up a search box.
Unfortunately, it seems like you have to do this for each user!! But the search tool will bring up a maximum of 200 users at a time but limited to 25 per page...so if there are a lot of them, then it will take some time!
You will also, of course, need to remove availability to all users with a system account if you only want some of your users to access a particular area.
It was advised by some colleagues from a couple of US institutions at the Bb Users conference in Baltimore this year that the Courses Content area in the CMS be turned off completely, because when courses are archived at the end of a year any links the student makes to course content in this area become orphaned, but the content remains in the content system!
Hope this is helpful.
regards
