Marie Curie Summer School: Knowledge Based Materials
http://materialsknowledge.org
Applications have now opened for attnedance at a new series of EU
sponsored Marie Curie Summer Schools which will be held between 2005 and
2008.
This year's Summer School, run by Prof Günter Gottstein of the Institute
of Physical Metallurgy and Metal Physics RWTH-Aachen will focus on
multidisciplinary aspects of materials science associated with single
phase materials. It will be held between the 8 - 17 August 2005, in
Huertgenwald, Germany, in the heart of the Eifel.
The presenters at this summer school are all internationally renowned
academic and industry based researchers drawn from a wide range of
Materials Science domains, including:
* ceramics
* glaciology
* metallurgy
* geology and
* polymers
Thirty places are fully-funded for young European researchers, and a
further ten places are available on a fee-paying basis for participants
from around the world.
These Summer Schools, which will run between 2005 and 2008, each lasting
10 days, offer young researchers:
o Presentations by 15 world-class materials scientists from all
domains of materials science
o A combination of observational methods, experimental
procedures, theoretical developments and simulation techniques
o A state of the art knowledge of the similarities and
differences between natural and manufactured materials
o Insights into current research at a wide range of scales
o Training in Science and Society, Science Management and
Scientific Communication
o Europe-wide contacts with researchers at all levels and from
all materials science disciplines
The participants will have the opportunity to present they own current
research, and will participate in discussions, field excursions and
theoretical and applied presentations.
For online application forms (closure date 1st May 2005), further
information as to eligibility for EU support towards registration,
accommodation & travel, and for fees for non-eligibile participants,
