The Centre for Biomimetics at Reading has the following position open:
Research Fellow
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position at
post-doctoral level to work on the interactions between fluid flow and
arrays of hair-based sensing receptors in various biological systems
(crickets and fish, in particular). The project is funded by the Future
and Emerging Technologies programme of the European Union and includes
partners in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands and
China.
The position will involve morphological, anatomical, mechanical and
dynamic characterization of insect and fish mechanoreceptors and their
response using various experimental and modelling techniques available
within the project.
Applicants should have a strong motivation for interdisciplinary
research and ability to work independently. They should hold a PhD in a
relevant subject and have research experience in mechanical properties
of biological materials, biophysics, materials science, bio-engineering
or biological mechanosensors. A solid background in biology would be an
asset. The Centre of Biomimetics is a very active and stimulating
research group with an international reputation in the field
(www.reading.ac.uk/Biomimetics), fully integrated in the School of
Construction Management and Engineering which has been awarded a rating
of 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise.
